Don’t leave it too late to sell your practice

We sold a practice this year and it completed on the 3rd of April 2019.  The vendor died on the 12th April 2019. 

The vendor’s wife worked in the practice and went to stay with her sister for a week because she was in shock.

The one member of staff was on holiday and was not informed of the death of the vendor until his return the week later.

The buyer was left on his own in his recently acquired office to deal with calls from clients asking what was happening about their accounts.

The buyer did not know:-

  • who the clients were
  • how to use the system
  • what to say to the clients
  • when the vendor’s wife would be back
  • how to continue to service his own client base whilst dealing with this emergency

The buyer did a fantastic job keeping everything together despite the tremendous pressure he was under.  Please don’t be in this same situation.

The moral of the story is sell when you still have time to enjoy life post sale.  We don’t want to find any of our vendors in this same situation.
